About Marc Laberte:
Marc André Joseph Laberte (29 May 1880 – 29 March 1963) is the son of Pierre Alexis Auguste Laberte, and trained as both a luthier and a bow maker. Around 1911, Marc Laberte inherited his family’s firm, Laberte-Humbert Frères, eventually merging it with Fournier Magnié around 1920. By this period, Laberte’s workshop had over 300 employees. Some master makers who were a part of the Laberte workshop include Camille Poirson, Charles Brugere, and Georges Apparut. The workshop owned a large variety of instruments from famous makers such as Stradivari, Guarneri, Ruggeri, Lupot, Stainer, and Vuillaume, which they examined and used as models for making their own good quality to master level instruments. After being closed for a time during the war, the workshop only lasted for several more years past the end of the war before closing down for good.
